I am thrilled with my first decent crop of
Gooseberry Invicta. The bush is only a couple of years old and to date I have only ever had 3 or 4 berries each year but 2009 has been stunning. These berries are a slightly yellow colour and the plant is highly resistant to gooseberry mildew. These are now softer to the touch and can be eaten straight from the plant without a hint of any acid flavour - they are just perfectly sweet!
The same can be said for all of my other soft fruit bushes. They just ripen at the same time. The joy of soft fruit is that apart from pruning once a year, you really don't have to do anything to the plant - they just produce lovely fruit for you.
